Daniil Medvedev Favored To Reach Second Week Of Wimbledon

Nuno Borges vs Daniil Medvedev: Preview, Prediction, and Odds

Daniil Medvedev Favored to Reach Second Week of Wimbledon

Predicting the Outcome of the Much-Anticipated Third-Round Clash

Nuno Borges has made history by reaching the second week of a Major for the first time in his career. The Portuguese qualifier stunned 23rd seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round to set up a blockbuster third-round clash against world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev.

On paper, the matchup heavily favors Medvedev, who has won 19 of his last 21 matches on grass. The Russian has also reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in each of the past two years. Borges, on the other hand, has never faced a player ranked inside the top 10.

However, Borges has shown impressive form in recent weeks, winning the Challenger event in Nottingham and reaching the semifinals in Eastbourne. He also pushed Basilashvili to the limit in their second-round encounter, taking the first set before eventually losing in three.

Despite Borges' recent form, it's difficult to bet against Medvedev, who is one of the most in-form players on tour right now. The Russian has won three titles this season, including the Geneva Open and the Masters 1000 event in Madrid.

The oddsmakers at Bet365 have Medvedev as the overwhelming favorite to win with odds of 1.04. Borges, meanwhile, is an outsider at odds of 11.00.

Prediction

Based on the current form of both players, it's hard to imagine anything other than a Medvedev victory. The Russian is simply too good on grass and is playing with confidence right now. Borges has shown that he can compete with top players, but he will need to play the match of his life to upset Medvedev.

Our prediction is that Medvedev will win in three sets.
